Ham and Pritchard have chosen to perform their own soundtrack to a selection of early abstract short films.

Taking inspiration from early experiments in abstract film, marked by hypnotic movements and abstract shapes, Alwynne Pritchard and Tijs Ham will create a sonic counterpart, in conversation with the unique visual language. The films, created by the likes of Walther Ruttmann, Hans Richter, and others, are read, almost like an animated score, a guide, full of potential clues, possible interpretations, refrains, and motifs. At the same time, this 'reading' is focused on the open spaces between the lines, moving back and forth between 'following', 'countering' and 'exploring' beyond that which is given.

About the musicians:

Tijs Ham is a Dutch sound artist and musician currently living in Bergen, Norway. Using the artist name Tapage, he has released a long string of albums and e.p.'s on various international record labels.

He is the co-founder of the 'Soundlings Collective' and has worked for the STEIM (Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music) Foundation in Amsterdam between 2011 and 2017 in various capacities. He is a member of The Void*, a trio playing and recording experimental electronic music.

His artistic practice is situated on the crossover between sound art and live electronics and involves designing new electronic music instruments, compositions, and performances. In particular, his interests focus on the use of chaotic processes and exploring the unstable, unpredictable timbres that come into play when these processes reach their tipping points. These concerns form the basis for a Ph.D. in Artistic

Research that Tijs Ham is currently undertaking at the University of Bergen.

Alwynne Pritchard is a British composer, vocalist, actor and writer based in Bergen. In her music and performances she explores relationships between musical expression and the human voice and body. In 2015, she formed the music-theatre company Neither Nor with her partner Thorolf Thuestad.

After undergraduate studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the Royal Academy of Music in London, Alwynne went on to obtain a Masters in Musicology and a PhD in composition from the University of Bristol. She is an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music.

Alwynne has composed for, and performed with, leading musicians and ensembles at venues and festivals across the globe.
