Site Specific

Hans Christian van Nijkerk is currently in the last phase of a project in which he has been exploring the visual potential of our round outdoor space, the derelict foundation of a 1930’s telescopic gas tank.

Every year KIB (Bergen School of Art) gives it’s first year students the assignment of developing a site specific work in an outdoor space of their choice. Hans Christian is the third such student who has chosen to use the area surrounding Wrap. He has chosen only to use materials found around the space its self in order to maintain a close relationship with it and to make the most of his time. The round space Hans Christian is using, is truly one of the most unique and inspiring features of our centre, and has been used for a number of exiting events and projects. Choreographers Veronica Thorseth and Gitte Bastiansen, together with sculpter Malene Pedersen created the first site specific performance in this space for the opening of Wrap in 2003, a project which led to the long term collaboration between Malene and Veronica in which they also created the site specific performance, Byen Jeg Bor I, (The Town I Live In) for the same space. Circus No Purpose, an informal collective of artists based in Bergen, also created a site specific family event here in the summer of 2003, and it has since been a popular site for several out door events, as well as for student projects such as Hans Christians. We are also planning a benefit concert for Wrap this summer, which will take place in the round space, although the details are not yet confirmed.

International Day of Dance

This Saturday we will be celebrating the International Day of Dance. Students from the various dance schools, as well as some professional performers will be performing around town throughout the day, and Wrap will host the official party at the end of the day with a short performance by Christine Oma with Gitte Bastiansen, followed by video highlights from the performances around town, and our regular DJ’s Christian and Fusa.
